It gives us great pleasure to introduce you to JADE MOUNTAIN.
JADE MOUNTAIN was the creation of my late husband, Nick Troubetzkoy, who was the conceptualist, architect, and designer behind this extraordinary place. Together with a fine team of engineers, he personally oversaw the entire building process. JADE MOUNTAIN was Nick’s unique declaration of love for Saint Lucia’s stunning beauty—and as you will have noticed, a bold and utterly original declaration it was.
In addition to providing you with general resort information below, I’d like to share how JADE MOUNTAIN came to be.
Nick had been an avid collector of antique carved jade mountains for over 35 years. He already had an impressive collection when he first came to Saint Lucia in the 1970s—many of them eerily reminiscent of the spectacular landscape surrounding JADE MOUNTAIN, including the iconic Pitons.
The strong connection he felt upon first seeing the Pitons was no doubt tied to his love of these carved jade mountains. What began as a brief visit turned into a lifelong devotion to the island and its people.
When it came time to name the new property, JADE MOUNTAIN seemed the only choice. It felt to me that Nick was finally carving his own jade mountain—this time from stone, and on a much grander scale than any piece in his collection.
JADE MOUNTAIN lived in Nick’s mind long before it was built. From the very beginning, he envisioned a place that would allow guests not only to enjoy the majestic views of Saint Lucia’s Pitons, but to feel as if they were becoming one with them—floating into space. The now-iconic infinity pools and their bridges were always meant to represent BRIDGES TO INFINITY.
Jade, known in China as the “stone of heaven,” inspired the name, and our signature COLUMNS TO HEAVEN became an integral part of the design—eventually crowned with stunning glass sculptures created by David Knox of Lightstreams, who also designed our recycled glass pool tiles.
JADE MOUNTAIN is as much a work of art as it is a hotel. Our operational team has the exciting and challenging task of ensuring that guests experience not only extraordinary architecture but also world-class service delivered with warmth and refinement.
In collaboration with David Knox, Nick helped develop 24 unique reflective pool tile colors—each sanctuary featuring its own signature palette. The tile molds were destroyed after production to preserve the exclusivity of the design.
Nick was hands-on at every stage, insisting that no two sanctuaries be alike. Each features its own personality, from the pool shape to the furnishings. He sourced a wide range of pieces—from local artisans and renowned international designers—to curate an eclectic and harmonious experience. Bathroom fixtures were also carefully selected from leading European manufacturers, ensuring each sanctuary was entirely unique.
Twenty different species of tropical hardwoods were hand-selected from Guyana’s rainforests, and the interior walls finished in blush-toned coral plaster from Barbados. The exterior design incorporated massive rough concrete and locally quarried stone, seamlessly blending bold architecture with the island’s natural surroundings.
As the design evolved, we realized the term “suite” did not capture the spirit of our accommodations. With open layouts and a profound sense of peace and place, we chose to call them sanctuaries—a word that at the time was not yet part of the hospitality vocabulary, but perfectly expressed what JADE MOUNTAIN offers: physical and emotional retreat.
In building JADE MOUNTAIN, Nick was also deeply committed to community empowerment. The entire project was handcrafted by artisans from the local community of Soufrière. Nick held deep respect for Saint Lucia’s masons and woodworkers—their craftsmanship speaks for itself.
We are proud that JADE MOUNTAIN and its sister property ANSE CHASTANET are Saint Lucia’s only two hotels with Travelife Gold Certification, in recognition of our commitment to sustainability and community. JADE MOUNTAIN is also the only LEED Gold Certified property in the Caribbean.
This dedication was recognized with the Counterpart International Emerald Award, honoring luxury resorts that drive destination stewardship. Counterpart’s president, Lelei LeLaulu, praised JADE MOUNTAIN for its extraordinary design, use of recycled materials, and exceptional staff culture.
Nick and I were always grateful for the opportunity to share our vision with you.
Since Nick’s passing on November 25, 2024, our family has been deeply moved by the outpouring of support. I’m also proud to share that our son, Yasha, has stepped forward to carry on his father’s legacy. With his passion, integrity, and deep understanding of what makes JADE MOUNTAIN so special, Yasha is guiding our resort into its next chapter—one rooted in the same values of bold creativity, sustainability, and heartfelt hospitality.
